What is the difference between external and internal transfers?

Students who are applying to ISU from other institutions to become CHE/CTE/BMB majors are external transfers. Once a student has enrolled in a class at ISU, that student who wants to become a CHE/CTE/BMB major would be an internal transfer. If a student does not meet the criteria for admission to the major when transferring to ISU (as an external transfer), he or she may not be accepted as a CHE/CTE/BMB or a General Student. It is better for the student to complete the supplemental admission criteria at their junior college, so that they will be successfully admitted within their chosen major.

Students considering transferring to ISU and applying for the CHE/CTE/BMB majors should carefully study the Course Articulation Guides. These guides identify which courses at Illinois community colleges are considered to be equivalent to ISU courses required for admission to the major.

If you apply to ISU with an Associates Degree and are accepted into the major at the time of your transfer you should participate in the Transfer Registration Program (one-day session). If you do not attend a Transfer Registration Program and meet with a chemistry advisor at that time, when you try to enroll in classes at ISU you may not get into the courses you need in order to remain as a CHE/CTE/BMB major.
