Even though a student might be accepted to ISU, they might not be accepted into the major OR as an Undeclared Student.
The most common problem for external transfer students involves the math requirement for admission to the CHE/CTE/BMB major (MAT 145/146). Many students, unfortunately, do not take the appropriate math class at other institutions. It is important to note that math courses that may fulfill requirements for an Associates Degree often do not fulfill the math requirement for the CHE/CTE/BMB major.
One of the courses required for the CHE/CTE/BMB major is Physical Chemistry I (CHE 360). This course has MAT 146 and PHY 108 or 109 as prerequisites, preferably PHY 110 or 111. What this means is that students need to complete one year of calculus and physics before they can take the physical chemistry course, as well as 8 h of 200-level chemistry courses. Assuming successful completion of each course, it takes a minimum of two semesters to finish the BMB major including CHE 360, three semesters to complete the CHE major and four semesters to finish the CTE major. Courses numbered CHE 315 or higher are not typically offered during the summer session.
