Information on departmental scholarships is distributed by the Department of Chemistry staff to declared majors just prior to pre-registration for the next semester, along with their faculty mentor's name, e-mail and office location. In addition, the department advertises available scholarships by posting informational flyers and delivering information via the mentors.
The Department of Chemistry has been fortunate in obtaining funding from industrial corporations. The department offers scholarships for promising first-year students, women, and minorities; research assistantships for juniors and seniors; and travel support for students to attend scientific meetings to present the results of their research.
The Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program (http://www.teachereducation.ilstu.edu/noycescholarship/index.shtml) provides a scholarship award plus tuition and fee waivers for up to two years to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) students studying biology, chemistry or mathematics teacher preparation programs. In return, recipients will commit to teach at least two years in a Chicago Public School (CPS).
