A student who is making normal, minimal progress in the Chemistry or Biochemistry & Molecular Biology Majors should:
- maintain a 2.0 (2.5 for Chemistry Teacher Education Majors) or higher cumulative Illinois State grade point average (GPA)
- maintain a 2.0 (2.25 for Chemistry Teacher Education Majors) or higher Chemistry or Biochemistry & Molecular Biology GPA (based on courses in their Plan of Study)
- enroll in courses listed in the major no more than three times (A third enrollment in a majors course is allowed only under special circumstances by contract)
- earn a grade of C or better in core Chemistry courses which are prerequisites for other courses in the major, especially MAT 145, CHE 140 and 141, and

Illinois State University students should note that graduation requirements beyond the major include:

- 30 of the last 60 hours earned at ISU
